Limitless 2020 CrossFit Open

It’s that time of the year.  The CrossFit Open is upon us, and now we have an awesome opportunity to help each other reach our goals.  Over the next five weeks, we will be holding a friendly team competition and team building event.  Nothing really special required from you all.  All you have to do is come to the box. .and we know how much you love coming to the box :).

 What is the Worldwide CrossFit Open?

The Official Worldwide CrossFit Open is a five-week, five-workout competition held in the winter in CrossFit affiliates and garage gyms around the world. Workouts are released online each Thursday.  This year,the first workout is announced on October 10th for 5 weeks. You can compete against other CrossFit gym members worldwide to see where you rank by registering on the CrossFit Games website. 

What is the Limitless Open then?

This is our Intramural Open (In House). It’s a FUN team competition in which everyone in the box gets involved. This will be our 4th year of running it. Being part of a team just means you turning up and completing workouts and logging your scores on sugarWOD. There is no pressure and everyone can make a real conribution whether that be by completing loads of workouts or by bringing Spirit of the Open points for your team.

How do I do this?

You will automatically be part of a team and you actually don’t need to do anything different than usual. It’s going to be fun and a great way to get to know more of the people here at CrossFit Chiltern. 

I don’t think I am good enough, and will make my team lose.

Don’t worry about that.  The scoring system is designed so that everyone can contribute to the team.  Points are given relative to your own individual effort. You earn points by showing community spirit and showing up for class as well as doing an Open WOD, or ending up at the top of the leaderboard. And ultimately, our CrossFit Chiltern community is the winner.

Will the workouts be hard?

Not any harder than what we already do in class. And everything will be scaled.  There will be the scales provided by CrossFit for the workouts, but we will also use our own scale.  The scale we use will be the same as the scaling system we currently use in the box. The goal is to provide you with a benchmark from which you can gauge your progress later on down the road.  The other secret is that you have been doing past Open workouts in class from time to time.  Maybe you just didn’t know it!!!!

What if I can’t make it on the Open workouts?

As stated in the scoring section, you still earn points for your team by doing regular class workouts, and extra credit homework.

Do I have to be registered for the CrossFit Open to participate?

Nope..  But if you would like to, you can register for the CrossFit Open by clicking HERE. Registering in the Worldwide Open allows you to rank your result alongside the 100s of 1000s who participate around the globe.

What if I did sign up for the CrossFit Open? 

If you signed up for the CrossFit Open, you will be scored according to the movement standards put out by CrossFit HQ.  This will be different than our in house scaling options, and is necessary for your score to be validated. We suggest officially signing up to the Open if you can meet the majority of the scaled movement standards. Ask a coach for more details.

What happens at the end of the Open?

We will be having a Final team workout on Saturday 23rd November with our Prize-giving will taking place during our Chistmas party on Friday 29th Novemberat a venue to be confirmed. 

What team am I on?

Well the draft for this year's Open is being held this Saturday and will be published on our Members Facebook group and also on the Website. Keep an eye out for information. You'll receive a Whatsapp invite from your Captain soon after the draft has been completed.

Do I have to do my Open workout the same time as my team?

Nope.  Although it is encouraged, it is not mandatory.  But we are not held responsible for you being kidnapped and tied to a pole.

I'm scared!! I don't know about this!!

There is absolutely nothing to be scared for. All you really need to do is keep coming to class and doing your thing. Every year the Open is a fantastic opportunity to meet new people and really understand what a great community we have here. It's not about who is the best it's about which team comes together and has fun. It's impossible to let your team down as just by turning up you are being a strong member. The Teams

Rules of the Game:

  1. Teams have been chosen at random.

  2. Each team is assigned a Team captain & Vice Captain.

  3. Team members earn points regardless of whether the athlete does Rx or scaled. For example, if Bob does the workout Rx, and accumulates 180 reps, and Sue does the workout scaled and accumulates 200 reps, Sue Finishes higher for her team. The goal is to push yourself within your own individual training threshold. This is notwithstanding scoring for purposes of the CrossFit Headquarters Leaderboard. (Coaches have been advised to look out a check athletes scaling. If there is any underhanded over-scaling huge penalties will be accumulated!!!)

  4. The main mission is to simply get in the gym, have fun, smash it up, and make yourself better.

  5. Join Facebook and join our CrossFit Chiltern Members Facebook group to keep in touch with banter and score some points in our special challenges!!

Scoring:

  • Competitors must change their first name on sugarWOD to (Team Abbreviation)(First Name) ie TB Jeremy Reilly

  • 3 points per team member for attending a regular WOD.

  • 5 points for every team member who completes an Official CrossFit Open workout.

  • 3 points down to 1 Bonus Point for every athlete on the team who scores in the top 3 ladies and top 3 men for the Regular scoring WODs. (The scoring WOD’s will be announced when each workout is released on sugarWOD.

  • 3 points down to 1 Bonus Point for every athlete on the team who scores in the top 3 Ladies and top 3 Men in the box for the Official Open workouts.

  • All WODs must be logged on sugarWOD to accumulate attendance and scoring points

  • Spirit of the Open points will be awarded for amazing sportmanship, team bonding and spirit, team banners, uniforms. Anything that Jeremy or the coaches feel worthy of points.

  • There may be penalties for anything that is not in the Spirit of the Open!

  • Captains picks - Each Monday for the 6 open weeks The Captains will pick one athlete whose scores will count double for the following week. (These people can only be selected once. Coaches cannot be picked!) Open workouts completed on Monday score for the previous week. (Log the points gained for this under the Friday score for that athlete as they will not have completed a workout that day as they can only do Open workouts once.

  • it is each teams captains job to log scores on the Excel spreadsheet each day.

Scoring for the previous week closes at 9pm the Tuesday after the Open workout is announced.

CrossFit Games Official Open:

  • The 5 Official CrossFit Workouts will take place at the box on all of Friday’s classes with additional chances to complete the workouts on Saturday at 8am, the Open gym slot at 11am (You will need a judge for this) and Monday 8pm classes.

  • Workouts can only be completed once at the box. We are not allowing athletes to repeat workouts unless they finish inside the Top 10 of the country for their age category. Make your workout count!

  • If you are overseas during the Open you can complete workout at another box but must video and post on CrossFit Chiltern Members Facebook group.
