Keeping it Fresh: Your Guide to Gym Hygiene

Alright team, let’s talk about something that’s not always easy to address: gym hygiene. We love having a packed house at CrossFit Chiltern, but recently we’ve had a few comments about, shall we say, less-than-fresh aromas wafting through the box.

Now, we all know that CrossFit is a sweaty business, and nobody expects you to smell like roses after Fran. But there are a few things we can all do to keep the box smelling fresh and ensure everyone feels comfortable.

Top Tips for Staying Fresh

  • Shower Power: It might seem obvious, but a quick shower before you hit the box can make a world of difference. Especially if you’re coming straight from work or after a long day.
  • Deodorant is Your Friend: A good quality antiperspirant deodorant is a must-have. Apply it generously to all the important areas (you know where I’m talking about!).
  • Fresh Gear, Fresh You: Don’t re-wear your sweaty gym clothes! Wash your workout gear after every use to prevent bacteria build-up and lingering odours.

Tackling the “Dri-Fit Funk”

Dri-fit clothing is amazing for wicking away sweat, but it can also trap odours like nobody’s business. Here’s how to banish that “dri-fit funk” for good:

  • Vinegar to the Rescue: Add a cup of white vinegar to your washing machine during the rinse cycle. Vinegar is a natural deodorizer and will help neutralize those stubborn smells.
  • Baking Soda Power: Pre-soak your dri-fit clothes in a baking soda solution before washing. This will help break down sweat and odours.
  • Sunshine is Your Ally: Hang your gym clothes out to dry in the sunshine whenever possible. The sun’s UV rays have natural antibacterial properties.

Muddy Shoes: A No-Go

We love that you’re embracing the great outdoors, but please leave those muddy shoes at the door! Nobody wants to be slipping and sliding in mud during their WOD. Plus, it’s just not hygienic.
