We are 14 days into January. The initial “New Year, New Me” excitement has officially evaporated. This is the danger zone for consistency.
The “One Thing A Day Challenge” was designed to be flexible precisely for this moment. When you are tired, busy, and the novelty is gone, your brain will try to convince you that skipping one day doesn’t matter. But it does—because skipping is a habit, too.
This is the week you must adopt the “Just Show Up” Philosophy.
1. Lower the Barrier to Entry
When motivation is low, we tend to view the gym as a massive 90-minute commitment (travel, change, WOD, shower). That feels heavy.
- The Fix: Tell yourself you are just going to show up for the warm-up. That’s it. Once you are in the box, surrounded by your community and your coach, 99% of the time you will finish the WOD. But the “Just Show Up” mental contract gets you through the door.
2. Focus on the “One Thing” Win
If a full class feels impossible today, look at your “One Thing” list.
- The Fix: Maybe your “One Thing” today is just 10 minutes of stretching in your living room. Maybe it’s just drinking your 3 liters of water. A small win is infinitely better than a total zero. ### 3. Momentum is Hard to Start, Easy to Keep
Think of your fitness like a heavy sled. The hardest part is the first 5 meters. Once it’s moving, it takes less energy to keep it going. - The Fix: If you stop now, you have to do the “hard start” all over again in February. Keep the sled moving. Even a slow crawl counts as forward progress.
Don’t Let the Sled Stop
You are halfway through the month. Finish the “One Thing A Day Challenge” strong by prioritizing the habit of showing up over the feeling of being motivated.
